Avalon

Take a walk down any street
talk to anyone you meet
and ask him about the world today

He's sure to shake his head
and say that we're all hanging by a thread
for the world has lost its way

You can find abandoned dreams
and broken down schemes
lying by the highway every night

Yes it's lined with regrets
like black silhouettes, and yet
the road is oh so bright

      Travel on, travel on
      to Avalon
      We're riding upon
      that shining path
      past the grapes of wrath
and by dawn we will reach Avalon

Phil Ochs felt betrayed
when the new world got delayed
and now he just howls in the dark

He's a shadow, not a man
but hidden in his hand
he still holds the vital spark

He's there for you to see
if you look carefully
a firefly that never stops to rest

He's moving through the trees
sailing on the breeze
he's the unrequited uninvited guest

      He's travelling on, travelling on
      to Avalon
      Riding upon
      that shining path
      past the grapes of wrath
and by dawn he will be in Avalon

      Keep travelling on
      and by the dawn
      you will surely reach Avalon
